Olivia Barrios
Born and raised in Philadelphia, she’s proud to have called Rhode Island home for the past decade. With deep appreciation for the community she’s built here, she felt it was finally the right time to plant roots and bring Sweet Curiosity to life!
Cooking has always been a part of her story. Both of her parents were chefs, so snow days and early school dismissals often meant being whisked into the kitchen to explore, taste, and learn. That early exposure led her to choose technical school over a traditional high school experience. There, she learned the fundamentals of the culinary arts and discovered that baking was where her heart truly was.
One of her instructors encouraged her to enter a local vocational cooking competition. Though hesitant at first, she took a chance—and walked away with a full scholarship to Johnson & Wales University. She studied there from 2016 to 2020, navigating her education through the challenges of COVID and its disruptions.
During her time in school, she completed internships at a yacht club in Michigan, a casino in New York, a bakeshop in her hometown, and finally at Sin Bakery in Rhode Island. Sin became home for six years, where she sharpened her cake-decorating skills and eventually worked her way up to kitchen manager. After years of learning, growing, and pouring her creativity into countless cakes, she felt a pull to build something of her own—something that reflected her style, her values, and the joy she finds in making life’s moments sweeter. With the support of her community and the experience she gained along the way, she finally took the leap.
Sweet Curiosity was born from a desire to slow down, create with intention, and craft desserts that feel as personal as the celebrations they’re made for. Every cake is a chance to tell a story, honor a milestone, or bring a little magic to an ordinary day.
Today, Sweet Curiosity is her way of sharing the curiosity, creativity, and love for baking that’s been with her since childhood—one small-batch treat and custom cake at a time.
